Latest News Ethnic Chaplaincies Promote Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Evesham By Con McHugh In recent years Mgr Daniel McHugh, Co-ordinator for Ethnic Chaplaincies for the Archdiocese, has worked to introduce our Ethnic Communities to local and national pilgrim sites including Hednesford, Harvington, St Chad’s Cathedral, Walsingham and Knock in Ireland. Following this July's success of the Ethnic Chaplaincies’ Jubilee Year Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Evesham, Mgr Daniel McHugh now hopes to share and promote this pilgrimage more widely. His aim is to breathe new life into the devotion to Our Lady of Evesham and help revive interest in a site where, in recent years, pilgrim numbers have declined. To support this, a new Pilgrimage Guide Booklet has been produced for families and groups visiting Evesham. The booklet recounts:• Our Lady’s appearance in 701 AD• The veneration of Our Lady in the Abbey• The Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception and St Egwin• The Abbey ruins as they stand in 2025• A suggested pilgrim walk from the Church to the ruins It also includes photographs from the Jubilee Pilgrimage, with a Foreword and Epilogue by Mgr Daniel providing spiritual and historical context. The Church of the Immaculate Conception and St Egwin, Evesham, has been designated by His Grace as one of this year's Jubilee Churches - special places of pilgrimage where the indulgence may be gained. A Jubilee Year Mass takes place there on the First Saturday of each month at 12noon. Through this initiative, Mgr Daniel hopes to continue uniting communities in faith and devotion, and to renew the pilgrim spirit that has long been part of our diocesan life.
