Sacred Heart Church in Tamworth has turned surplus apples into a symbol of solidarity and sustainability. Over recent weeks, parishioners have been gathering everyone’s unwanted apples across the community.

Last weekend, the fruits of their labour were transformed into homemade pies, crumbles, and 270 bottles of freshly pressed juice, which was named Care of Creation Apple Juice.

The initiative raised approximately £750 for CAFOD, the Catholic development charity, and brought together volunteers from across the parish community, including two asylum seekers who played a key role in the effort.

The project coincides with the Season of Creation, which started on 1 September and will conclude on the Feast of St Francis, 4 October.

Sacred Heart has also recently published a Sustainability Statement outlining its commitment to reducing waste, cutting carbon emissions, and promoting social equity. From solar panels and composting to repurposing clothes and food, the parish is modelling practical, faith-driven stewardship.
