Latest Diocese Life Blog Bene Merenti Award for Gerry and Denise Poole: A Life of Faithful Service In the year dedicated to Pilgrims of Hope, on Sunday, 26th July, celebrated as World Grandparents Day, Olton Friary parish joyfully honoured Gerry and Denise Poole with the Bene Merenti Awards, the Papal Blessing and one of the highest recognitions of service in the Catholic Church. Presented by Canon Jonathan Veasey, Vicar General of the Diocese, at 11am Mass, in the presence of Fr Biju Antony SCJ Parish Priest, Fr Andrew and SCJ community, the award celebrates decades of unwavering commitment and faithful ministry by the couple. Denise and Gerry Poole with the SCJ Community Gerry, the parish organist since 1992, and Denise, a Reader, Minister and Sacristan for over 45 years, have been pillars of the community, offering quiet, selfless service in music, liturgy, and administration. Patrick SCJ on his 70th birthday and 40 years of religious life, birthday wishes to Matilda Fernandes on her 75th, and a warm welcome to Fr Andrew, a new SCJ member from Thailand. Cecilia Campbell During the 6 pm Mass, Fr Wilfred, Regional Superior, also honoured Cecilia Campbell for her many years of devoted gardening work that has beautified the parish grounds.
