Latest Diocese Life Blog Goodbye to gas...Going green with infrared heating Over the last year a project has been underway at St Gregory the Great to move away from gas to a greener alternative. The parish was forced to act after the central heating at the church was condemned in 2024 and a new heating solution needed to be found. After much research and investigation, it was decided an all-electric infrared heating solution from Connect Infrared was the way forward. The work was completed in October 2025 and the heating system is working well: All the new heaters operate at low wattage while delivering exceptional performance, achieving energy savings of 70%+ compared to traditional heating systems. Parish priest Fr Oliver Holt, together with parishioner Con McHugh, are sharing this case study to help other parishes navigating their green journey. It includes the project background, infrared heating summary, design solution, technical information, photographs and a short video. Kevin Chand, from Connect Infrared, said: “Connect Infrared delivered an all-electric infrared heating solution for St Gregory the Great, a large and traditionally hard-to-heat church. It was a pleasure working with Fr Oliver and Con, whose strong technical knowledge and genuine interest in how the technology worked helped shape the final design. With limited incoming electrical capacity for such a large building, careful system planning was essential.” If you would like to discuss the project at St Gregory the Great please contact Fr Oliver via email: [email protected] Explore Case Study Manage Cookie Preferences
