Interchurches 2nd Football Tournament at Olton Friary – A Joyful Gathering of Parishes

What a great joy it was as parishes gathered together at the Olton Friary for the 2nd Interchurches Adult Football Tournament, held on the afternoon of Sunday 6 July.

Organised by the Fundraising Committee, led by the Olton friary, the event brought together teams from several parishes:

•    Sacred Heart and Holy Souls, Acocks Green
•    Our Lady of the Wayside, Shirley
•    St Augustine, Solihull
•    Holy Ghost and Mary Immaculate, Olton

The football matches were a great opportunity for fellowship, friendly competition and community celebration. The clergy from various parishes, alongside parishioners and supporters, gathered to cheer on the players and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The weather was fantastic, and the Friary lawn came alive with cheers, laughter and enthusiastic support. In the end, it was Our Lady of the Wayside who emerged as the champions, lifting the trophy in glory.

Just like the successful junior football tournament held back in June, this event was another milestone in bringing the community together through sport and faith.

A special thank you was extended by Canon Fr Jonathan, Dean Fr Andrew, Fr Stephen, Fr Marco, Fr Austin and Fr Biju Antony SCJ, who honoured the champions and expressed their gratitude to everyone involved.

Adam Williams also thanked all participants, volunteers and attendees for making the event such a success.

There were plenty of refreshments available, including a delicious barbecue, teas, coffees and ice cream, which added to the joy of the afternoon.

It truly was a glorious occasion - a celebration of sport, community, and faith!
