The Special Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV, is being celebrated from 10 January 2026 to 10 January 2027 to mark the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

St Francis of Assisi Church, Bedworth, is marking this important year together with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Bulkington, and St Francis Catholic Primary School in Bedworth.

On Wednesday 11 February, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Mass was celebrated with the school children joining the parish congregation to mark the beginning of this Jubilee Year. The children helped to lead the liturgy, and the church choir also played an active and uplifting role in the celebration of Mass.

Following Mass, the Memorial Wall was blessed, with the plaques now in place. Thankfully, the weather remained dry for the occasion.

Inside the church, two new colourful and vibrant banners of St Francis have been installed - one at the front of the church and one on the side wall - expressing our commitment to follow in St Francis’ footsteps. A banner kindly donated by the school is now displayed outside on the church wall.

The parish is planning future events during the year. When the warmer months arrive, there are plans for a pilgrimage walk beginning at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and following a designated route to St Francis Church, where a plenary indulgence may be granted. The pilgrimage will conclude with refreshments - a welcome cup of tea - offering a wonderful opportunity to pray and journey together during this Jubilee Year dedicated to St Francis.

Fr Pat Brennan, Parish Priest, expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the Mass and celebrations so special.
