Latest News Sharing our saints: parishes invited to contribute to new diocesan supplement Following consultation within the Archdiocese, Archbishop Bernard has approved a revised Diocesan Calendar as part of the preparation of a new Diocesan Supplement. While this material is not yet authorised for use and awaits recognitio from the Holy See, work is now beginning on supporting resources connected with the saints and blesseds of our local Church. We need your help to develop this resource: parishes, schools and individuals are warmly invited to share any existing materials that could contribute to this work. New Diocesan Supplement This completes the first stage in the preparation of a new Diocesan Supplement (Calendar; Prayers and readings for Mass; Readings for the Office of Readings) which will replace that issued in 1999. The Calendar is shared here for information. However it is important to note that the revised Calendar may only be used after it, and the other liturgical material in the Supplement has received recognitio from the Holy See’s Congregation for Divine Worship. The proposed supplement will be submitted for recognitio early in 2026, and we hope for an early reply. In the meantime the Supplement working group has also begun work gathering and creating materials related to the saints and blesseds of the Calendar. This additional resource is being created to help deeper our knowledge of and devotion to the holy women and men who are remembered in the calendar. Their history is part of our history, and their faithfulness supports our lives in faith. So we want to prepare materials that can be used in parishes and school to help us learn about these witnesses to the Gospel and servants of the Church, and also to encourage pilgrimage to the places associated with them. This is likely to involve quite a lot of work! So rather than try to re-invent the wheel, the group asks anyone – schools, parishes or individuals – who has already prepared such material whether they would be happy to share what they have done, so that it might be incorporated into the new resources and shared still more widely. Those we presently have in mind, and in no particular order, are: Worcester: Bishops and Martyrs Lichfield: Missionary Ministers: St Chad and St Edmund Gennings The Martyrs of Warwick Saints of Oxford – martyrs, scholars and saints (St Frideswide; St Agnellus; St Edmund; Bd George Nichols and Companions, St Edmund Campion and companions; St John Henry Newman) Littlemore: St John Henry Newman and Bd Dominic Barberi Harvington – St John Wall Birmingham: The Cathedral; the Oratory (and some vanished churches of note) Droitwich: St Richard of Chichester Your parish church and your cathedral If you can help in this way or would like to know more about the project, please email [email protected] Manage Cookie Preferences
