Latest News St Chad's to host national event celebrating 60 years of Vatican II declaration on interfaith dialogue St Chad's Cathedral and the Archdiocese of Birmingham is honoured to host the national celebration marking the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate — the landmark declaration of the Second Vatican Council on the Church’s relations with non-Christian religions. First promulgated by Pope Saint Paul VI on 28 October 1965, Nostra Aetate called the Church to recognise the “rays of truth” reflected in other faiths and to foster dialogue, friendship, and cooperation across religious traditions. Sixty years on, those principles continue to guide the Church’s mission of peace and understanding. The celebration at St Chad’s Cathedral brings together faith leaders and representatives from across England and Wales for prayer, reflection, and discussion. The day includes a panel discussion on “Dying to Live: The capacity of faith communities in Birmingham to discuss end-of-life concerns,” led by the Centre for the Art of Living and Dying Well at St Mary’s University, followed by Sung Vespers with reflections from different faith traditions. In the participation booklet, Archbishop Bernard Longley expresses his gratitude for “the warmth of interreligious dialogue and the close working relationships that have been built up over these years.” You can watch the full celebration live via the St Chad’s Cathedral livestream: St Chad's Cathedral.
