Latest News Staffordshire parishioner helping to revive the Tyburn Martyrs Walk in London Martin Crowther, a parishioner of St Mary’s in Brewood, is helping to revive the Tyburn Martyrs Walk in London. At one time the Walk was an annual tradition, commemorating the 105 martyrs of Tyburn. Thanks to Martin’s efforts, together with Joanna Bogle of Catholic History Walks, this year’s Walk will take place on Sunday 17 May from 1.30pm, gathering at St Giles in the Fields, London. There will be a short talk by Joanna on the martyrs. An opportunity to venerate the place of martyrdom and a visit to the Nuns at Tyburn Convent, with Benediction at 3.30pm. If the weather is good, please bring a picnic to have in Hyde Park afterwards. It has taken Martin about two-and-a-half months organise the Walk, which is suitable for all and is less than two miles. “I completed a pilgrimage to Tyburn in January and was inspired to try to revive the walk by the place and by a comment from the oblate who showed us round,” said Martin. “She expressed with regret that the Tyburn Martyrs Walk was no longer held. It seemed good to me to do what I can to revive this ancient tradition and promote devotion to the Martyrs of our land. “Joanna has done the walk two or three times, before the Covid lockdown, as part of her Catholic History Walks. The last one by the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom was possibly in the 1990s. “This is a wonderful opportunity to help revive a long-established Catholic devotion. “I encourage others to get in touch with me to collaborate in promoting the English Martyrs in various parts of the country as examples of love for Our Lord, and love for the people of this land and to pray for the conversion of England.” To find out more please visit the Tyburn Martyrs Walk website Please contact Martin with any questions: [email protected] Poster is AI generated Manage Cookie Preferences
