Jubair Ahmed

Jubair kindly completed a short, optional questionnaire designed to find out more about why people have decided to join the Catholic Church. He will be fully welcomed into the Catholic Church this Easter, 2026.

Please tell us a little about what drew you towards wanting to become a Catholic.

Before looking into Catholicism I was a devout Muslim. I went to the mosque regularly, prayed often, fasted and went as far as memorising two chapters of the Quran in Arabic by heart. When I went to boarding school for college, I met my now closest friend who is a Polish Catholic. The topic of religion and theology came up and we sat for hours discussing different ideas and topics, but instead of mocking or belittling my faith, he got me to question why I was devoted to the faith. After a while I got into philosophy and modern theology so I started asking myself more and more questions about my faith so I dove deeper into my faith and questioned everything. I came to ultimately question why the Lord of Islam ruled with death and fear, and the Lord of Christianity ruled with ever loving love to the point of sacrificing his own life for us. That’s when I started to dive into Biblical teachings and everything clicked. Catholicism showed me what true altruism looked like.

Please tell us something you have learned during your period of formation to become a Catholic.

Just how important the death of Christ was for not just our salvation, but to help his followers want to feel closer to him. The point being his death creates a pull for those who want to believe as we question why someone so divine would do such a thing for mere mortal creatures. There’s a feeling of genuine love, devotion and honour for the sacrifice made that differs from other faiths. Followers of other faiths almost feel like it’s an obligation/forced duty to pray ritualistically etc. But the teachings of Catholicism help encourage a want and need to attend Mass, pray the rosary etc through the Lord’s sacrifice.

Please tell us something you are looking forward to, following your reception into the Catholic Church.

I look forward to finally fully participating in taking the blood and body of Christ. I’ve always felt like a tourist when I attend Mass as I join the lines for the Eucharist with arms crossed, not being able to properly take the Lord into my body and fulfil his biblical command. Once baptised I think reality will finally hit that I am now on the straight path to his kingdom.
