The Cathedral of St Chad offers educational visits for schools that are usually preparing for Confirmation.

Visits are available on weekday mornings (Tuesday - Friday) ; working around a busy Cathedral diary, in which you’re invited to tour parts of the Cathedral rarely seen by the public. You will be in the company of our very knowledgeable volunteer team of guides (pictured). 

Tours begin at 10am and end at 12.10pm, in readiness for the children to attend midday Mass at 12.15pm. Each group is invited to choose two experienced altar servers to serve during the Mass and two children to participate in the offertory procession.

A gift shop facility is also available for schools who wish to use it. Prices are determined to allow for ‘pocket money’ spending. This must be booked at time of booking the school visit. Arrangements can be made for your staff to manage the shop or, on certain days of the week a volunteer will be happy to help you.

A limited number of dates in May are available for KS1 children to visit the Cathedral. A simplified programme is available, that incorporates, Baptism, Minni Vestments, religious artefacts and exploring materials used in the Cathedral. KS1 children are welcome to stay for 12.15pm Mass, but tours are shorter than those of KS2.

Currently, the cost of school visits is £90 (for up to 30 pupils) or £3 per child (for groups of 31 or more pupils).
